Health Assistance

  • Community Healthcare Network (CHN)

    New York City community health centres offering prenatal and postpartum care, women's health, pharmacy and more. Everyone can get care regardless of immigration status or ability to pay; patients without insurance pay on a sliding fee scale.

  • Open Door Care Network (Open Door Family Medical Center)

    Federally qualified community health centre network in Westchester and Putnam counties (Brewster, Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Ossining, Port Chester and Sleepy Hollow), with midwives and family health care. A sliding fee discount based on income and family size, and counselors who help you apply for insurance.

  • New York State Medicaid & Child Health Plus

    Statewide

    Health coverage for eligible New Yorkers, including Child Health Plus for children. Apply through NY State of Health or your local department of social services; pregnant people and children can also apply at many clinics, hospitals and provider offices.

  • Nurse-Family Partnership — New York

    Statewide

    A registered nurse visits expectant parents at home during pregnancy and the child's first years, about two and a half years in all. New York programs include several in New York City (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and citywide through the NYC Health Department), Nassau County, Monroe County and Catholic Health. Nurse-Family Partnership is now run by Changent.

    New York City's largest provider of shelter and supportive housing for homeless families with children. All family shelter placements are made through the city's PATH intake office, 151 East 151st Street, Bronx, which determines eligibility for emergency shelter.

Parenting Classes

    Free program for fathers in New York City, supported by DYCD: a three-month Parenting Skills Development workshop series (24/7 Dad curriculum), case management, help getting benefits such as Medicaid and SNAP, and career and financial counseling and job skills training.     Free pregnancy support in Queens since 1992: pregnancy help and referrals for limited ultrasounds, free parenting classes for moms and dads, and ongoing material assistance for children from birth to age 10.
